> D.G. Elmore
D.G. Elmore could have lived anywhere.
The owner of four businesses, six minor league baseball teams, and two hockey teams spread across the United States from Chicago to San Antonio to Colorado Springs has valid reasons to live in more than eight different cities.
Instead, D.G. Elmore lives in Bloomington, Indiana.
"I chose to make Bloomington the home base," he said.
Elmore's first taste of Bloomington came nearly two decades ago, when he attended Law School at Indiana University. Upon graduation in 1984, he decided to remain in Bloomington.
"Originally, I wasn't planning to stay," Elmore said. "But I got involved in the community and that made me want to stick around."
As he began to establish himself in the community, Elmore took advantage of Bloomington's favorable business environment and opened Cornerstone Information Systems in Fountain Square downtown.
"The cost of living here is very competitive, while the price of office space is great compared to other metro areas," Elmore explained. "Plus, there is a good source of IT folks available."
Besides utilizing Bloomington's rich knowledge resources, Elmore has found the community to be accessible for his wife and six children.
"I've got kids who are athletes being coached by former Big Ten players. I've got kids who are musicians being taught by IU professors," he said. "It is amazing that it exists here in Bloomington the way that it does."
Elmore is also actively involved in the area's spiritual community.
"There are some great churches here in Bloomington," he said.
Despite traveling for at least two days out of the week and having businesses across the globe, D.G. Elmore has no intentions of leaving Bloomington.
"Because I travel often, I think that I have a good feel for cities," he said. "I can't think of a better place to be than here in Bloomington."
