> Alan Minton
Alan Minton and his wife Joleen came back to Bloomington in 1996 to visit friends.
They never left.
"Our friends knew we were looking for a change, so they introduced us to some people and I was offered a job," said Minton, now the Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Cornerstone Information Systems in Bloomington. "The schools and the community were good, so we decided to stay."
Minton was raised in Bloomington and attended school here until his senior year of high school when his parents moved to Atlanta, Georgia. He later attended college at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Upon graduation in 1989, Minton returned to Atlanta to work as Special Assistant to the Executive Director of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Holiday Commission. He worked under Coretta Scott King, the wife of the late civil rights leader, with offices in Atlanta, New York, and Washington, D.C. Minton was promoted to Executive Director, but the work of the commission was nearly complete in 1996.
"I was thinking that my next job would be something with the government out of D.C.," said Minton.
It was during this time of transition that Minton made his fateful trip to Bloomington and fell in love with the community. His first Bloomington job came in 1996 at Hirons & Company Advertising, where he was in charge of opening the firm's offices in China. In 1999, Minton moved over to Cornerstone Information Systems as the Vice President of Sales and Marketing. After more than four years in the Bloomington business community, Minton is quick to point out the area's benefits.
"The business environment is favorable," he said. "There is a good relationship between government, Indiana University, and the business community."
Aside from business advantages, Minton has found Bloomington to be a wonderful place for his family.
"The cost of living is very low and there is a high demand for quality education," he said. "The quality of life here is extraordinary."
